Summary of Intervention(s) | • In the Netherlands, various debates, agendas and campaigns around responsible research assessment culminated in the multi-stakeholder Recognition and Rewards Programme and its position paper ‘Room for Everyone’s Talent’ being published in 2019. • In response to the national programme, Radboud University formed a Recognition and Rewards Committee. The committee put out a discussion paper on how the University plans to reward non-research related activities among academic staff: teaching, societal impact, patient care (in the medical centre) and administrative tasks.
• The document sets out four principles for changing how its academic work is recognized and valued, including: quality being evaluated based on a combination of qualitative and quantitative information; greater emphasis being put on teamwork and research collaboration; and recognizing the broad diversity of academic tasks and the varying diverse talents of staff.
• The University plans to organize discussion meetings with staff on how these principles can be put into practice.
