Summary of Intervention(s) | • In 2019 Maastricht University signed DORA.
• The online press release states that this move is consistent with the University’s policy on open research and aligns with their commitment to the national programme for Recognition and Rewards in the Netherlands, which emphasizes taking a broader view of academic achievements beyond publication and citation indicators, to include social impact, teaching, and leadership qualities.
• To implement Recogniton and Rewards priorities, Maastricht University set up committees comprising representatives from each faculty for the domains of education, research, impact and leadership (patient care lies with Maastricht University Medical Centre), to initiate discussions within the faculties and generate narratives about how to recognise and reward performance within their domain. The University Rector Rianne Letschert stated that it is important for academic staff to be able to reach professor status through specializing in one or more of these domains.
