  • In 2021 Wageningen University set up a meeting to feedback the results of a staff survey that asked academic staff how they perceive the current system and their ideas about changes needed.
  • The move was a response to the national strategy paper ‘Room for everyone’s talents’ which introduced a reform of research assessment ‘Recognition and Rewards’.
  • The outcome was the decision to develop a prototype for an adapted academic career assessment framework.
  • The new career assessment framework would incorporate values and criteria such as open science, societal impact, education, leadership and team science.
