Summary of Intervention(s) | • Based on DORA, the Leiden Manifesto, the Metric Tide Report, and the UK Forum for Responsible Research Metrics, Leeds Beckett University set out a statement for responsible uses of research metrics.
• The statement contained nine principles to inform judicious use of research metrics (including bibliometrics and altmetrics) in all forms of research assessment, including individual level hiring, promotion and retention assessments.
• Principles include quantitative indicators supporting rather than replacing peer review; accounting for differences across research disciplines, avoiding false precision, and ensuring use of high quality robust data sources.
• The University’s Research & Enterprise Services, Deans, and Directors of Research, or their nominated representatives, were tasked with ensuring the statement has been circulated widely and understood by staff. The University’s Research & Enterprise Services are responsible for carrying out audits of engagement with the Statement across the University.
