Top Factor is a tool developed by the Center of Open Science to rate journals’ policies adherence to the Transparency and Openness Promotion (TOP) Guidelines and guide the implementation of more transparent and reproducible research.
Published in 2015, the TOP Guidelines provide eight modular standards of journal publications, with multiple levels of increasing stringency within each standard. This is meant to give journals that adhered to the TOP Guidelines the ability to select which of the eight transparency standards they wish to implement and also to select a stringency level of implementation for each. These features help to establish community standards of research quality and transparency.
The Center for Open Science also provides resources like a one-page summary of the TOP Guidelines and an educational webinar about TOP Guidelines.
