DORA is opening a global call for new Steering Committee members. We are seeking up to 8 committed individuals from around the world—particularly from Africa, Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean—to help shape the future of responsible research assessment. If you have time and energy to join our movement, we would love to have your self-nomination!
Over the last decade, DORA has grown into a worldwide initiative with over 26,000 signatories in 167 countries, including individuals, universities, research funders, journals, publishers, and government agencies. Together, we work to improve research assessment practices so that they recognize and reward the full range of contributions to research and society.
Why join the Steering Committee?
The Steering Committee provides leadership for DORA’s mission and vision, as outlined in our governance procedures. Members play a vital role in guiding our strategy and supporting the global community of signatories. As a Steering Committee member, you will:
- Participate in one-hour meetings every three months.
- Join task forces when needed.
- Promote DORA in your region, and represent DORA at events and discussions on research assessment.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful change in research culture, while amplifying perspectives from underrepresented regions you get to meet at our community.
How to apply
To be considered, please complete the self-nomination form by October 31, 2025:
👉 Nomination Form
We are looking for individuals with diverse professional and academic backgrounds, and encourage self-nominations from underrepresented and minoritized scholars and early career researchers. DORA is committed to ensuring that all Steering Committee members are well supported and empowered to contribute meaningfully to our mission.
All applications will be reviewed by the DORA Steering Committee, which will vote to confirm new members. We aim to communicate the outcomes to all applicants by early December 2025.
The Steering Committee will vote and the selection process will prioritize having a diverse set of experiences and geographies in the composition of the group. The ideal candidate:
- Demonstrates knowledge of responsible research assessment and willingness to improve research culture,
- Provides a balance to the experiences and strengths of the other members, and
- Can commit to attending quarterly “virtual” meetings, also outside working hours.
We look forward to receiving your self-nomination—and to building a Steering Committee that reflects the global diversity of our community!
