Job Opening: DORA Program Director

The Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) is a campaigning initiative of high international standing and influence that aims to advance practical and robust approaches to research assessment globally and across all scholarly disciplines. In leading change, we work closely with a community of funding organizations, academic institutions, scholarly publishers, and researchers. DORA is currently seeking a Program Director to be responsible for delivering the strategic goals of DORA and for coordinating all of DORA’s programs and activities.

Essential Functions

Program Development and Management

  • Oversee the implementation of existing projects and develop future projects in line with DORA’s mission to improve scholarly research assessment.
  • Lead strategic planning for overall initiative and specific initiatives
  • Develop strategic partnerships to advance DORA’s priorities
  • Work directly with the DORA Chair, Executive Board and Steering Committee

Network Management

  • Serve as the primary point of internal and external contact for DORA
  • Supervise, organize, and facilitate initiative events
  • Maintain DORA website contents and other communication tools
  • Manage direct reports
  • Maintain communication with volunteer leadership and other volunteers 

Financial Management

  • Work with DORA Executive Board to develop, manage a sustainable business plan
  • Preparing and managing the DORA annual budget, including periodic forecasting, and monitoring of member organization billing and receivables.
  • Lead the development of grant proposals
  • Be responsible for the fiscal reporting to supporting organizations

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Excellent managerial and organizational skills
  • Ability to work across global time zones
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and goals
  • Possess initiative, be entrepreneurial, and think strategically and long-term
  • Must be able to cultivate respectful, strategic and collaborative relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds

Education and Experience

  • Masters or PhD or equivalent work experience
  • Well-versed in the evolving landscape of research assessment
  • Experience and working knowledge of HTML

Successful applicants can expect to be compensated $100,000/year with benefits. This position is located in Rockville, Maryland and reports directly to the Director of Public Policy at the American Society for Cell Biology, DORA’s administrative entity.

This is a hybrid position. Successful applicants can expect to work remotely and in-person at the ASCB office in Rockville, Maryland. Only applicants in Maryland, DC, Virginia, Massachusetts or New York will be considered.
